Solar Oven
In the near future I will begin a solar powered oven project. I've seen many on the internet, and even some commercially available. But none of them suit me too well, so I will be designing and building my own.
What I have in mind is a simple array of lenses and mirrors to focus sunlight onto an iron box (possibly a dutch oven), which will disipate the heat nicely to the interior, for use in cooking.
I will do my best to post frequent updates once the project is underway, along with drawings and equations used for the design.
Materials List
- 3-4 lenses
- 3-4 Mirrors
- Wood
- Steel chamber
Estimated Cost: $40
Day 1
09/30/08
I haven't made any official plans of what how the oven will be designed, but I did look on ebay today and found a lot of 5 fresnel lenses for $7.95 + $5.95 shipping. The quantity and price were right, and was planning on using fresnel lenses anyway, having once used one for a homemade projector with relative success.
